Traditionally “Financial Advice” has been about Products. For example:
- which is the best ISA?
- is a Norwich Union Pension better than a Scottish Widows Pension?
- is this investment fund better than that investment fund?
However “Financial Planning” is about money, not products. In summary we ensure our clients:
- Never run out of money.
- Ensure their families remain financially secure no matter what happens.
We do this via a structured process which is outlined below:
1. Discovery Meeting
The purpose of the Discovery Meeting is to explain in detail our Financial Planning Service and find out as much as possible about you, your goals in life and your current financial position. It is an opportunity for us to meet and for you to get a feel for whether we are the kind of firm you would like to work with. It is useful if you can bring along to this meeting as much information as is possible and you may want to use our document checklist to ensure you don’t forget anything.
We also ask clients to answer 10 difficult questions to stimulate them to think about what it is that is important to them.
There is no cost or obligation for either party during this meeting.
Following this meeting we will send you an engagement letter setting out what services we have agreed to perform and confirming our fees.
If you are happy that we are the right firm for you to work with in years to come you will return a signed copy of our engagement letter and we will start work on your plan.
2. Planning Meeting
We will need around 2 -3 weeks after our Discovery meeting to gather all of the information necessary for this meeting. Your Planning Meeting will last between 2 and 4 hours and we suggest this is held in the comfort of our offices so that we can develop your Financial Plan together. By the end of the meeting you will:
- Know exactly where you are financially
- Understand our investment process and what risk tolerance you have.
- Have a clear action plan of what you need to do in order to be financially independent
- Rest assured that you and your family never run out of money.
Following this meeting we will prepare a printed copy of your Financial Plan which includes details or all of your existing investments and policies. In short a comprehensive overview of your financial position in one easy to refer to place.
3. Implementation Meeting
2 weeks after your planning meeting we will get together again to implement any recommendations as required. This is an opportunity for us to answer any questions you may have following your Planning Meeting and to fine tune any recommendations made. We will then help complete any paperwork required, for example to transfer existing investments and pensions under our management.
4. Review Meeting
Held at least annually your Review Meeting will allow us to show you how you are progressing towards your goals and to amend your plan to take account of any charges in circumstances or objectives.
We will also bring you up to date with any legislative changes, and up date you as to the performance of your investment portfolio.
Any sections of your Financial Plan which have been amended will be updated in your Financial Organiser File.
